• Trust and Cooperation: My Ph.D. dissertation examined how institutions affected trust and cooperation among business actors in Italy and Germany. I've written articles and book chapters, and am currently writing a book on this.
• E-commerce: I've written two articles and several book chapters on the regulation of e-commerce, focusing on the regulation of privacy. I'm now beginning a broader project that widens the focus to state-private actor relationships in the governance of e-commerce.
• The European Union: I co-direct a project with Adrienne Héritier at the European University Institute on constitutional change and conflicts over competences between actors in the European Union.
• Institutional Theory: I've an interest in institutional theory, and especially in the relationship between rational choice, historical institutionalism, and sociological approaches.

The main research interest of Prof. Holzinger is in the theory of political decision-making and conflict resolution. She applies these theories to all political levels of action, and in particular, to the analysis of international cooperation and regimes and to decision-making and constitution-building in the European Union. At the University of Konstanz her research focuses on intra-state conflict and civil wars and on ways and procedures of managing and resolving those conflicts. She uses mostly, but not exclusively, the theoretical framework of rational choice and economic theories of politics. Her past empirical work has often dealt with environmental policy. Current research projects are dealing with the performance of communicative procedures of conflict resolution, with the convergence and change of environmental policies, and with the evolution of the European constitution.
