Research Focus:

My research interests lie at the intersection of development economics, gender, and labor market dynamics. I employ natural experiments and quasi-experimental methods to evaluate the impact of social protection programs on reducing gender disparities, expanding educational opportunities, and improving labor market outcomes for women in low-income settings—particularly in Egypt and the broader MENA region. My work also explores the long-term effects of these interventions on issues such as child marriage and child labor, while examining how social norms—including dowry and bride price—shape patterns of violence against women, high divorce rates, and women's limited economic participation.
